UPDATE: Lorde Responds After Copping “Angry” Reactions For Not Singing At The VMAs
ORIGINAL STORY: Lorde has confused the internet after not singing during her performance at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) in California today.
Taking to the stage to perform her Melodrama album cut ‘Homemade Dynamite’, Lorde was notably without a microphone as the song started playing in the background. Her vocals were present in the audio, but she didn’t sing them or lip-sync them either.
Instead, she danced with a crew of backing dancers by her side, in something of an interpretive dance piece, which was (for some reason) introduced as “a remix” of ‘Homemade Dynamite’.
In the end, it confused fans and non-fans alike…

Prior to the performance, Lorde told fans on Twitter that she currently has the flu, and has been on a drip to keep up her fluids. She even called herself a “cute lil propped up corpse” when describing a photo of herself on the VMAs red carpet. She also told fans that the “show goes on”.
