Lorde has wielded her Twitter account to publicly blast a paparazzo who she claims has been stalking her. The 17-year-old singer posted photos of the man, photographer Simon Runting, saying she was “scared of him.”

“This man has been stalking me, photographing me and refusing me privacy. I am scared of him. He frequents central akl,” wrote Lorde, captioning a photo of the alleged paparazzo. She also posted a link to his Facebook page and noted his controversial photographs of Rihanna when she was in Auckland.

“This should not be an accepted standard for young women or anyone in this industry,” continued Lorde in her online tirade. “I refuse to stay complicit and I refuse to stay passive about men systematically subjecting me to extreme fear.”

“I understand that this comes with the territory. I do not understand why I should be complacent,” she added. Runting is the same paparazzo that Rihanna blasted in October last year, when she reposted his photo of her standing at the window of her Auckland hotel room, and, borrowing from Kanye West lyrics, captioned it with, “I hate these n***** more than the Nazi”.

Lorde’s posts were sent to her more than one and a half million followers on Twitter, and retweeted thousands of times. According to The New Zealand Herald, neither Runting nor Lorde’s manager have commented on the posts.

The teen pop star took to her Tumblr account last week, to post her objection to the fact the magazine Complex, had featured Australia’s Iggy Azalea on its cover in the past year or so and then had more recently run a critical review her album.

The post gained the support of Azalea herself as well as Canadian singer and producer Grimes and prompted a direct reply from Complex in an editorial piece. “If Complex — or the media at large—operated the way Lorde wished, it would do away with journalistic integrity all together,” wrote the magazine’s Associate Editor Insanul Ahmed.
