Lorde, Trent Reznor Up For 2015 Golden Globe Awards

The mysterious Hollywood Foreign Press have unveiled their 2015 Golden Globes nominations and noted musicians such as Lorde, Sia, Lana Del Rey, Trent Reznor, Patti Smith and Common are all up for awards.

18-year-old Lorde’s The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 track Yellow Flicker Beat and Opportunity, Sia’s new song from the Annie remake, are each up for the coveted Best Original Song award.

“How extraordinary that the little girl who watched ‘Annie’ as a child is now a woman with a Golden Globe nomination for adapting the music of her favorite childhood movie,” wrote Sia on Twitter following the news.

“I thought Katniss was one of a kind when I first laid eyes on her in a cinema in 2012 — a rough, sparkling diamond of a mind,” Lorde said of her soundtrack contribution in a statement, via Billboard. “It was a privilege getting to step inside her head and speak her thoughts, even for a brief moment…I am blown away that that experience got me nominated for a Golden Globe.”

They’ll be going up against tough competition in the form of Patti Smith and her track Mercy Is, composed for the Noah soundtrack, Lana Del Rey’s Big Eyes, penned for the Tim Burton film of the same name as well as Common and John Legend who composed the song Glory for upcoming movie Selma.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have nabbed their third Golden Globe nomination, this time for their work in scoring David Fincher’s Gone Girl which is up for Best Original Score, an award the pair took out in 2011 for their work on The Social Network.

Other nominees in that category include Icelandic composer Jóhann Jóhannsson, nominated for his score on the Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory Of Everything and jazz drummer Antonio Sanchez who scored the film Birdman. They’ll go head to head with the film composers for the movies The Imitation Game and Interstellar.

The 2014 winners of these categories were U2 who claimed the Best Original Song award for their track Ordinary Love, composed for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom and the Best Original Score award went to Alex Ebert for his work on the soundtrack for the film All is Lost.

The 72nd Golden Globes will be held on January 11th 2015 and will once again be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. See all the nominees below.
