Metallica Just Teased A Tour Announcement, But Is It For Australia?

UPDATE: Metallica have now announced a new North American tour for 2018/2019.

ORIGINAL STORY: Heavy metal legends Metallica have sent fans into a frenzy after teasing a forthcoming tour announcement, but unfortunately for Australian fans, it looks like it probably won’t have anything to do with the band returning down under.

Metallica shared a number of teaser videos over the weekend, which suggest they’re planning on announcing some new details for their current WorldWired Tour (behind latest album Hardwired… To Self-Destruct) early this week.

It appears the announcement is due Monday US time, which would be early Tuesday morning in Australia, and although there’s no official word on what the band will be revealing, there are some clues that it’s most probably a new 2018 North American arena tour.

A number of American arenas and radio stations have shared their own versions of Metallica’s new teaser videos, which suggests they’re also preparing to reveal some Metallica-related news this week.

We haven’t spotted any Australian ones yet, but here’s what the US ones look like:

So, despite Metallica not having toured Australia since Soundwave Festival back in 2013 (their latest headline tour was in 2010), and despite predictions from Soundwave’s AJ Maddah that the band would tour Australia in 2017 (or 2018), it looks like we might have to wait a little longer.

Metallica kicked off their WorldWired Tour in 2016, and it has already made its way through the US, South America, Europe, Latin America and Asia.
