MGMT Announce New Self-Titled Album

Psych rockers MGMT have finally dropped details on their forthcoming album. Studio album number 3 for the much-hyped Brooklyn duo will be self-titled and is set for release internationally on 17th September.

The album was recorded at New York’s Tarbox Road Studios and mixed and produced by long-time collaborator Dave Fridmann, who also worked on both 2008’s Oracular Spectacular and 2010’s Congratulations. Members Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser told Rolling Stone that they’ve experimented with different in-studio writing processes this time around and that the result is a 10-track record, including a cover of the Faine Jade ’60s track Introspection.

If you missed them the first time around, you can have a taster of new material from MGMT with their track Alien Days, which was released for Record Store Day, or the track Mystery Disease, which was premiered live at Penn State earlier in the year.

MGMT have previously said that album number 3 was inspired by Aphex Twin and if those early samples are anything to go by, MGMT will be a very different record to the last two.
