Middle Kids Announce New Album ‘Today We’re The Greatest’ And Tour, Share New Single

A little while back, Sydney trio Middle Kids returned with their first new music in 18 months, a buoyant, cathartic slice of guitar-pop gold called ‘R U 4 Me?’. Now we know what it was leading to, with the band announcing their new album Today We’re the Greatest will arrive on Friday, 19th March.

The band recorded Today We’re the Greatest in Los Angeles with producer Lars Stalfors, and will follow their 2019 EP New Songs for Old Problems. Their last studio album, Lost Friends, arrived back in 2018.

“I want to make music that loves its listener. Music that makes people feel seen, seen in the tiny little places that hide away in their hearts,” explained the band’s Hannah Joy in a statement.

“I want people to hear our music, and feel a sense of love. And when I say love, it can be challenging, intense and tough. But it’s in the guts.”

To coincide with the announcement, the band have shared new single ‘Questions’. It’s an introspective cut that sees Joy meditate on intimacy and honesty. It starts deceptively sparse, with atmospheric guitars anchored by its particularly nimble rhythm section of Tim Fitz and Harry Day – all building up to a big, cathartic climax replete with explosive horns.

The trio have also announced a headline east coast tour for May. The run of shows will kick off at Brisbane’s QPAC Theatre before heading to Melbourne’s Recital Centre. They’ll wrap up with a hometown show at City Recital Hall in Sydney. Pre-sale starts next Tuesday, 19 January at 10am local time – sign up here for access.

‘Questions’ arrives alongside a wild one-shot video directed by collaborator W.A.M. Bleakley. Watch that – and check out tour dates – below. Today We’re the Greatest is available for pre-order now.
