Midnight Oil Hatch Plan To Stop Jerk Scalpers Re-Selling Their Aussie Tour Tickets At Jacked-Up Prices

Good guys Midnight Oil aren’t only doing us a solid by reuniting to tour again (and pissing off One Nation senators in the process, they’ve also vowed to take “extensive anti-scalping measures” to prevent asshole scalpers from cashing in by buying up wads of Oils tickets and re-selling them at brain-bustingly insane prices, like we saw recently with fellow legendary Aussie act Crowded House’s reunion shows.

“Scalping has become a monumental rip-off,” frontman Peter Garrett tells the Herald Sun. “It’s urgent that we rein in low-life companies and individuals profiteering from music lovers by this disgusting practice.”

Speaking with Music Feeds, Midnight Oil promoter Frontier Touring reveals that they’ve partnered with the band to launch a multi-prong assault on would-be scalpers by taking the following old-school measures:

Oils’ manager John Watson reckons the measures will be a “speed hump” to bots, which can snap up dozens of tickets in seconds.

“All the things we are doing are creating speed humps to slow down scalpers who have so much tech resources and give them less of an advantage,” he tells the Herald Sun.

“It is easy for someone to have 100 email addresses and multiple credit cards but not as easy to have 100 post office boxes. You can monitor the addresses and if there are multiple tickets going to one address, then we can look at other action.”

So fans looking to get their hands on legitimate tix to the Oils’ big The Great Circle Aussie tour this October when they go on sale next week can do so via the following ticket providers only:

Furthermore, as fans who’ve been stung by asshole scalpers before will know, Ticketmaster and Ticketek both have re-selling platforms that allow shysters to set whatever price they damn well please for the coveted tickets, as we saw happen with Justin Bieber’s forthcoming tour, with tickets being resold for up to $3.5K!!!!

However, that won’t happen with the Oils, because the only outlet that’s been authorised to resell their tickets is UK site Twickets, which will only allow fans to re-sell at cost price.

It’s news worth dancing about.
