Miley Cyrus Cites Britney Spears And Metallica As Influences For New Album

Miley Cyrus is preparing to release her new album, having dropped synth-pop banger ‘Midnight Sky’ last month. That track drew comparisons to the likes of Debbie Harry and Joan Jett, but it seems like the album as a whole will draw on a wide range of influences.

Discussing the forthcoming album in an interview with French radio station NRJ, Cyrus discussed how ‘Midnight Sky’ ostensibly set the tone for the record.

“I think the first single comes with a lot of pressure because it does kind of show everyone where you’re going,” Cyrus said. “But again, in my sets, I cover Britney Spears to Metallica, so my record will be reflective of who I am, which is just kind of all different pieces of inspiration and influence.”

Indeed, Cyrus’ sets have regularly featured her rendition of classic songs. During her performance at Glastonbury last year, the singer gave her spin on Metallica’s ‘Nothing Else Matters’. At other times, she’s covered the likes of Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and more. Just days ago, Cyrus performed Hall and Oates’ 1982 hit ‘Maneater’ while appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

Tentatively titled She Is Miley Cyrus, the forthcoming LP hwill be the musician’s first full-length album since 2017’s Younger Now.  release date is yet to be formally announced. Last year, Cyrus released an EP titled She Is Coming, a precursor to She Is Miley Cyrus.
