Morcheeba Announce 2024 Australian Tour, Added to WOMADelaide Lineup

Morcheeba will return to Australia in March 2024. The duo of Skye Edwards and Ross Godfrey will play headline shows in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. They’ve also been added to the lineup for WOMADelaide, which is happening at Adelaide’s Botanic Park/Tainmuntilla from Friday, 8th to Monday, 11th March – and to WOMAD NZ, which is happening in New Plymouth.

Morcheeba were last in Australia for Bluesfest 2022. On that occasion, they played just two sideshows, one each in Sydney and Melbourne. “We’re thrilled to be returning to Australia and New Zealand in 2024 and performing in Perth, Brisbane and cities we haven’t played in years,” Edwards said in a statement. “It’s one of our favourite parts of the world to tour and we can’t wait to return.”

Morcheeba released Blackest Blue, their tenth studio album, in May 2021. It’s the second LP to be made by the duo of Edwards and Godfrey – Godfrey’s brother, Paul, had appeared on all of the band’s previous albums, including their breakout debut, 1996’s Who Can You Trust?, and the subsequent trio of ARIA Gold records, 1998’s Big Calm, 2000’s Fragments Of Freedom and 2002’s Charango.

Morcheeba are often referred to as a trip hop outfit – a vague genre assignation that also includes artists like Massive Attack, Portishead and Tricky. In an interview with Tone Deaf in 2020, Ross Godfrey shared his thoughts on the loose coordinates of the genre. “It was kind of an umbrella thing, really,” he said. “You could do anything you wanted and it could be considered trip hop as long as it had a slowed down, 16-bit breakbeat underneath it.”
