Nine Inch Nails, The Smiths Among 2015 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Nominees

The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame has revealed the nominees up for possible induction into 2015 and it’s an impressive span of seminal bands and artists across various genres. The list is topped by two ’90s icons, industrial rock titans Nine Inch Nails and classic pop punker’s Green Day.

NIN broke into the mainstream behind not-so-radio-friendly 1994 single Closer, which saw teenagers delight in getting to sing the swear word ‘fuck’ while more mature listeners tuned into Trent Reznor’s raw production and frank lyrical content.

Green Day took a less jarring route but their music was no less potent. Their third studio album Dookie launched Green Day, and pop punk, worldwide with catchy singles about masturbation, Longview, and neurosis, Basket Case.

Other big names on the list include influential English rock act The Smiths. Just don’t expect former bandmates Morrissey and Johnny Marr to kiss and make up if they win, a la Dave Grohl and Courtney Love at this year’s ceremony.

Pioneers in gangster rap (N.W.A.), electronic music (Kraftwerk), and MOR (Sting, already a Hall Of Fame member as part of The Police) could also make the cut for the class of 2015.

As fans are an essential part of granting a band legendary status, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame is asking the public to have their say. The top five acts, as voted by the public, will be entered onto a “fans’ ballot” which will be tallied along with industry ballots to decide the 2015 inductees.
