Northcote Social Club To Celebrate Birthday With ’20 Gigs For 20 Years’

Northcote Social Club have announced a run of shows for July and August 2025 to commemorate their 20th birthday. The 20 Gigs For 20 Years series will include a series of artists, bands and labels with a history at the famed Melbourne venue, which took over from the original Commercial Hotel Ownership in 2005. The full list of shows, as well as ticketing information, can be found below.

The program includes rare one-off shows from the likes of Augie March and Darren Hanlon, who were a key part of the venue’s mid-2000s origins, as well as the debut headlining show for Briggs‘ new heavy music project Big Noter following their shows opening for Tom Morello. Garage-blues duo The Mess Hall will also make another one-off return, celebrating the 20th anniversary of their debut album Notes From A Ceiling at a to-be-announced date.

“A friend once told me that walking into the NSC feels like a big warm hug — and that’s exactly the kind of place we’ve always strived to be,” said Emily Ferris, the venue’s longtime manager, in a press statement. “I’m so excited to see familiar faces returning to the venue — artists and punters alike — to celebrate what this place has meant to so many of us over the years.”

Since opening in early 2005, the Northcote Social Club has hosted many famed Australian artists such as Courtney Barnett, Something For Kate, Camp Cope, Sarah Blasko, Julia Jacklin, Karnivool, Kate Miller-Heidke, Gang Of Youths, Teenage Dads and RÜFÜS DU SOL. It has also served as host to many international acts – among them Lady Gaga, Pixies, Jason Isbell, The 1975, The War On Drugs, Julien Baker, Big Thief, Waxahatchee, La Dispute, The Beths, Lucy Dacus and Sierra Ferrell.
