Northlane’s Marcus Bridge Hospitalised In Europe After “Medical Emergency”

Northlane have been forced to cancel two upcoming festival appearances in Europe as their frontman Marcus Bridge was hospitalised after a “medical emergency”.

In a statement posted to their Facebook page, the band expressed their regret at having to pull out of their festival sets, explaining that Bridge had been feeling ill for some time and after seeking “medical assistance” discovered that “had an issue that needed to be operated on immediately due to a high risk of the problem getting worse.”

The band did not elaborate any further on the nature of the medical issue but assured fans “that he will be absolutely fine.”

“However, he is currently under going surgery and needs to be in hospital for the next few days,” they added.

As a way to make amends for the last-minute announcement, the band pledged to play an instrumental show in Germany “out of respect for everyone unable to change their plans”, but said they would be skipping the European Graspop and Southside festivals so they can wait for Marcus to heal, before heading back to Australia together.

“We apologise from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who was looking forward to seeing us play – as you know there is not much that could make Northlane cancel a show – but health always comes first in these situations,” they wrote. “Please send your best wishes to Marcus in his time of need, as he needs all the support he can get.”

Those best wishes seem to be flowing, in as Bridge took to his own Twitter account to thank fans for their support. “Thank you for your kind words guys! Kills me to miss these last few shows =[ but we’ll be back real soon!” he wrote, adding, “I’ll be out of here in the next couple of days! Future tours won’t be a problem!”

The Sydney metalcore outfit recently released Obelisk, the first official single to be take from their forthcoming album, Node, which will be their first with Marcus Bridge taking the lead vocal reins. Node will be unveiled worldwide on 24th July.
