Northlane are officially entering album number seven mode, announcing their new LP Anemoia alongside the biggest Australian headline tour of their career.
The Aussie heavy trailblazers will take over some seriously sizeable rooms across the country this November, bringing US metalcore crushers After The Burial along for the ride alongside local rising force Cenobia and Sydney heavies Above, Below.
The news comes alongside a fresh taste of Anemoia in the form of new single ‘CUT_it’, which you can take for a spin below.
Northlane – ‘CUT_it’
Due out Friday, 30th October via Independent / Immortal Music Group, Anemoia follows Northlane’s chart-topping 2022 album Obsidian and finds the band once again throwing their sonic rulebook into the blender.
Executive produced by former Bring Me The Horizon member Jordan Fish, the seeds of the album were planted after guitarist and songwriter Jon Deiley caught a mind-altering set from UK producer and DJ Evian Christ.
The experience inspired Deiley to explore how the emotional intensity and sheer scale of trance music could collide naturally with guitars and the cathartic brutality of heavy music.
The result sees Northlane’s electronic metal shapeshifting through euphoric trance, brain-rattling breakdowns, drum-and-bass, jungle, pop and some of the band’s heaviest moments since their earliest days.
The album takes its name from the concept of feeling nostalgia for a time or place you’ve never actually experienced, using that yearning to explore a push-and-pull between darkness and light.
“There’s darkness here, but it’s not nihilism – and there’s hope, but it’s not naivety,” vocalist Marcus Bridge explains.
New single ‘CUT_it’, however, lands firmly on the darker end of that spectrum.
Built around a suffocating low-end groove before erupting into outright sonic violence, the track tackles the physical and psychological exhaustion of running yourself completely into the ground.
“‘CUT_it’ is about burnout – the feeling of grinding through things when you’re completely spent, mentally and physically,” Bridge says.
“The imagery is deliberately visceral, painting a picture of that exhaustion rather than analysing it.”
Anemoia will arrive more than 15 years into a career that has seen Northlane continually mutate the parameters of modern heavy music, racking up multiple chart-topping records, awards and more than 500 million streams along the way.
And just days after the new album lands, they’ll take it out for its biggest Australian headline victory lap yet.
The Anemoia Australian Tour will kick off at Perth’s Metro City on Thursday, 5th November, before heading to Melbourne’s Festival Hall, Adelaide’s Thebarton Theatre, Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, Newcastle’s Bar On The Hill and finally Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall.
