If Melburnians felt left in the lurch following the news that California punkers Pennywise would be joining beloved Floridian ska outfit Less Than Jake at their Sydney Sidewave, they needn’t any longer. The punk veterens have announced today a quadruple-bill Melbourne-only sidewave show, bringing fellows Soundwave bands Stiff Little Fingers, Trash Talk and Authority Zero along for the ride.
25-year industry veterans, the ground-breaking Pennywise reunited in 2013, with fans across the globe since being treated to some of the greatest shows in the bands storied history. Australian fans will now once again get their chance to witness the reunited punkers in their element as a part of this massive bill at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel.
Fellow punk pioneers Stiff Little Fingers, have definitely stood the test of time since laying the foundations for the revolutionary movement in 1977 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. After countless tours and nine studio albums (with a tenth on the way) the protest band continuing to play to both newer fans and original diehards at sold-out shows across the globe.
Stiff Little Fingers told Music Feeds they were excited to bring their set back to Australian audiences as a part of Soundwave. “Even though we have been to Australia once before, we’ve really only scratched the surface. We only played in Sydney and Melbourne, so this time we’re getting to go to at least three other cities.”
“We are all very pleased with the way the album’s going but I’m not sure that we can shoehorn it in on the festival shows,” continued the band. “We are hoping to do a couple of sideshows on our own and hopefully in that setting we’ll get to play the full set. It’s kind of a balancing act.”
Buckle up, because ferocious Sacramento hardcore punk band Trash Talk is bringing its show to Australia, and it may just cause a stampede. Being the only non-hip hop act to be signed to American label Odd Future demonstrates why this act has been touted by critics as carrying the torch for the next generation of punk rock bands.
Rounding out this monster line-up will be none other than Arizona punk rock royalty Authority Zero. With four studio albums under their belt, two live acoustic albums, and two EP’s, and the release of their latest album The Tipping Point, Authority Zero are guaranteed to get the skate punk pit in full swing.
Tickets for this one-night-only show will go on sale this Thursday, 13th February at 9am.
