Acclaimed Seattle artist Mike Hadreas has previously released two shimmering and jarring records under the moniker Perfume Genius and has now announced he’s bringing his third, Too Bright, to Australia in February 2015.
The musician and his four piece band will take the stage at Melbourne’s Corner Hotel on Sunday 15th February, will move to Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on Wednesday 18th February and will round things off at Brisbane’s Brightside the following night, Thursday 19th February.
Recorded with Adrian Utley of Portishead and featuring longtime PJ Harvey collaborator John Parish on several tracks, Too Bright often straddles the line between introspective songwriting and overt experimentation and cements Perfume Genius’ place as a singer-songwriter of rare frankness.
The record is a transformative leap from the exquisite piano ballads Hadreas has become known for, with added bold and brave electronic elements. Of the record, Hadreas says it represents “an underlying rage that has slowly been growing since age ten and has just begun to bubble up”.
