Good mates and eternal Beatles fans Phil Jamieson (Grinspoon), Chris Cheney (The Living End), Tim Rogers (You Am I) and Josh Pyke have announced a 2018 national tour for the 50th anniversary of The Beatles’ White Album.
Having already toured the album in 2009 and 2014, the boys are getting back on the road to play the record in its entirety (while backed by a 17-piece orchestra) in Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Perth and Sydney this July.
The Beatles released their self-titled ninth album (AKA The White Album) in 1968, featuring hits like ‘Back In The U.S.S.R’, ‘Helter Skelter’ and ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’, but Jamieson, Cheney, Rogers and Pyke say they aren’t trying to imitate John, Paul, George and Ringo.
“We’re bringing what we do in our own bands and our own careers to the show,” Cheney says. “This is not us pretending to be The Beatles.”
“When we first did it, we didn’t know what it would be, or how it would work,” says Jamieson.
“It was an incredibly nerve-racking experience, because it’s a mammoth record and the material is so diverse. But we made it work. People really enjoyed it, and we got such a kick out of it.
“We’re excited to be doing it again.”
