Pink Floyd‘s next studio album, reportedly titled The Endless River, will not feature founding member and long-time bassist Roger Waters or be followed by a tour according to newly revealed details.

The album, whose existence was revealed by sources close to the band yesterday, features previously unreleased music dating back to 1994, taken from sessions with David Gilmour, Nick Mason and the late Richard Wright.

A source close to the band’s new project has told UK newspaper The Sun (via Brain-Damage) that Roger Waters will not feature on the album. Waters left Pink Floyd after the release of album The Final Cut in 1983, and has not been involved in any work on the new record.

The Sun have also stated that the critically acclaimed progressive rock band don’t plan to tour following the album’s release. A spokesman for the group reportedly stressed this point in his discussions with the publication.

The UK tabloid’s sources have also noted that Gilmour and Mason have been working hard on the album, which will be Pink Floyd’s 15th when released, in the studio over the past six months. The new material currently sits in a vault in London’s Abbey Road Studios, and has “been a joy for [them] to rediscover”.

According to Brain-Damage, a formal announcement from the band in regards to new material is expected very soon.

UPDATE 08/07/14: Pink Floyd have since confirmed that they are releasing a new album The Endless River in October 2014. The band say it will be an album of “mainly ambient and instrumental music”. It will be based on sessions for the band’s last studio album, The Division Bell, which was released 20 years ago.

The Division Bell features David Gilmour, Nick Mason and multi-instrumentalist Richard (Rick) Wright, a founder member of Pink Floyd, who died in 2008. Work is still in progress on the album, but more details to come soon.

Backing singer Durga McBroom-Hudson, who has toured with Pink Floyd, gave further details of the record on Facebook. “Yes, there is a new Pink Floyd album coming out and I’m on it!” she wrote, posting a photo of the sessions. She also revealed that The Endless River consists of “all unreleased songs” that had originally been planned for a side project called “The Big Spliff”.
