Please Enjoy This Video Of Megan Washington Singing Greta Thunberg’s UN Speech

One of the most recognisable and powerful viral moments of the year was when Greta Thunberg angrily called out the world’s politicians at a UN climate summit, and now Aussie superstar Megan Washington has set the same speech to song.

The reimagining of the speech, if you will, was a part of Sydney’s City Recital Hall We Are Twenty event at the end of October. It’s a part of a song titled ‘Crystal Clear’, and the music was composed by Robert Davidson.

We Are Twenty was about celebrating the next twenty years, not the last twenty,” Washington says of the piece.

“Greta’s speech is the definition of punk, and more important than any song that has been written in my lifetime, so I couldn’t ‘look to the future’ without including it. Rob is an actual genius because his compositions are proof that there is music in all of us, when we speak passionately, and from the heart. City Recital Hall is fucking cool for programming this piece.

“I really hope this video moves people, because it’s time for people to start moving.”

This isn’t the only musical rework Thunberg’s speech has copped this year. John Meredith, drummer for NY-based SUAKA, remixed it into a certified death metal banger, and even Fatboy Slim hopped in and remixed it into his own classic ‘Right Here, Right Now’.
