Powderfinger Have Declined Offer To Play The AFL Grand Final

Despite the rumour mill feverishly expressing otherwise, Powderfinger have unfortunately declined the offer to headline the musical portion of the forthcoming AFL grand final.

Taking to social media earlier today, the band did indeed confirm that they were asked by the AFL to play the event, which will be held in Queensland this year due to Victoria’s coronavirus numbers.

“Just to put the rumour mill out of business,” the band wrote.

“We were extremely flattered to have been asked to perform at the Gabba AFL GF. A very generous and enticing proposal made by Mr Gudinski and the AFL board (thanks ladies & gents) but it is not to be this time folks.”

However, they also said that they would rather make way for newer artists from the sunshine state, so they instead recommended ten acts that they would like to see play instead.

Those acts are: Amy Shark, Ball Park Music, Busby Marou, Cub Sport, Dune Rats, Nat Dunn, The Chats, Thelma Plum, Violent Soho and WAAX.

Both Dune Rats and Ball Park Music have jumped at the thought, with another punter asking what The Rubens were up to on the date of the game, to which they responded: “Probably watching the game at the local, but our arm could be twisted…”

The AFL Grand Final is set to go down at the GABBA on Saturday, 24th October. Stay tuned for who will actually play the event.
