PREMIERE: Watch Austen Watch Herself Perform New Single ‘North South East West’

Austen has been steadily working on her craft for a while now, and her latest release ‘North South East West’ is a shining example of her boundless pop sensibilities.

‘North South East West’ is a summery alt-pop jam that floats gently along delicate guitar strums and scratches, fusing fuzzy vocals, akin to Lana Del Rey, with a dreamy and punchy melody, similar to that of Ali Barter. Chuck in the fact that the song has help on production from Jagwar Ma‘s Jono Ma, and you’ve got an absolute tune.

The video is a trip all its own, showing Austen watching a performance by a band that is made up of…Austen, in various wigs and outfits.

I had the idea as a way to bring out the breezy, throwback vibe of the song, and also because it just feels like a song that needs to be played live,” Austen said of the video.

“I was at home playing around on the song with my guitar and my bass and drum pads, and I thought if my band can’t cross the borders then I may as well play all the bits myself.  I wanted to create different characters for each instrument, to form the ultimate girl band and embrace those different sides of myself.”
