Are they activists? Are they musos? Are they some kind of heaven-sent combo of foot-stomping, double-bass wielding anti-capitalist eco-warriors?
After lurking hard for the past few years, subversive inner-west bluegrass band The Lurkers are ready to unveil their 2nd album. ‘Padlock and Chain’ will be released at Sydney’s premiere alternative venue, The Red Rattler in Marrickville, on Saturday 17th of September.
The Lurkers have shown great skill at combining the classic folk protest song with cracking three part harmonies, sharp bluegrass runs and layered lyrics, plus a heap of wit to keep you smiling. ‘Padlock and Chain’ represents the next lurk in the journey after the band’s first album, ‘Shoot To The Moon’, took them to Europe, to the National Folk Festival, to Peats Ridge Festival, and saw them through many a-night on the road around Australia.
The Lurkers will be joined by hip hop folksinger Cody Dillon and performance trio Friends with Deficits, who recently impressed crowds at Underbelly on Cockatoo Island. There will also be a range of activities on the night to keep you thinking and blinking before The Lurkers hit the stage.
