Sydney’s TRANSGENRE Fest Returns For Round 2 With Flowerkid, Alex The Astronaut + More

After selling out its debut instalment in 2023, TRANSGENRE – Australia’s groundbreaking festival featuring wall-to-wall trans and non-binary talent – is officially back for Volume II, returning to Sydney’s Red Rattler Theatre (Gadigal Land) on Saturday, 27th September.

What’s more, this year’s lineup is stacked with some of the most powerful and exciting voices in the country’s alternative music scene, headlined by rising indie icon flowerkid, whose forthcoming, highly anticipated debut album is expected to cement his place as a scene icon.

Joining him will be Sydney indie-folk fave Alex The Astronaut – fresh off a run of major festival appearances, now set to deliver an ultra-rare, intimate acoustic set – alongside dream-pop duo FVNERAL, experimental force NOCTICA, hyperpop disruptor Dyan Tai, rap powerhouses JUBAHLEE and Stokahr, and a wave of genre-bending brilliance from Second Idol, Perfect Daughters and Hunny.

Even more than just a gig, TRANSGENRE Volume II promises to be a celebration of community, identity and joy. The all-ages event will also feature LGBTQIA+ stalls and resources, curated art and merch from local queer creatives, and food from plant-based chef fave Eli Tillett (Their Kitchen).

Festival co-directors Ellie Robinson (she/her) and Tim Blunt (they/them) comment: “Being a trans person in 2025 is, to say the least, exhausting – but now more than ever, community is vital. We believe in the power of joy as resistance… with this festival, we’re showing that trans and non-binary voices are among the strongest and most powerful in the country.”

TRANSGENRE exists to uplift gender-diverse artists who continue to be overlooked by a still-cis-leaning industry — and to create a space where authenticity and euphoria go hand-in-hand.
