Rapper Jon James Dies After Walking On Plane Wing During Mid-Flight Video Shoot

Canadian rapper Jon James McMurray — better known as Jon James — has died after walking along the wing of a small plane during a mid-flight music video shoot.

Filming in British Columbia on the weekend, 34-year-old Jon James — who is known for mixing stunt work into his videos — walked down the wing of the Cessna as a pilot controlled the plane, but walked too far and supposedly caused the aircraft to enter a downward spiral.

In a statement shared with media, the musician’s management said, “Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn’t have time to pull his chute.

“He impacted and died instantly.”

The pilot landed safely and no one else was injured, but Canadian authorities are reportedly investigating the incident.

James’ management said he had been working on the video shoot for months, and had “trained intensely” for it.

“His passion for making music videos and performing stunts were combined, and Jon pushed music in a new direction that was unchartered [sic] territory,” they said.

Tributes to James have since appeared on social media, including from his friend Rory Bushfield. Read his Instagram tribute, below.
