Rapper Shot While Attending Mother’s Funeral Service

Rapper and former co-owner of influential hip-hop magazine The Source, Benzino aka Raymond Scott, has been left in a critical condition after reportedly being shot at by his nephew during his mother’s funeral procession in Duxbury, Massachusetts yesterday, reports Billboard.

“He was shot in the shoulder while attending his mom funeral. By his side is his Dad, long time business partner Dave Mays, friend Stevie J and his fiance Althea Heart. At this time we ask that you keep Benzino in your prayers as we are hoping for a speedy recovery,” a statement reads.

According to sources cited by local outlet WHDH-TV 7News Boston, the mogul was shot at by nephew Gai Scott, who allegedly pulled up in his Bentley alongside Benzino’s Dodge SUV and fired multiple gunshots. Wounded, Benzino was subsequently transported to a nearby hospital.

The 36-year-old Gai Scott was placed under arrest and charged with armed assault with intent to murder. He is expected to be arraigned in Plymouth District Court on Monday. According to WHDH, family members claim there had been growing tensions between Scott and his uncle for some time.

The 48-year-old Benzino is best known for his time on reality show Love and Hip-Hop: Atlanta, as well as his time as co-owner of The Source, which was co-founded by longtime friend David Mays. Benzino’s time at the magazine was famous for a much-publicised feud with fellow rapper Eminem.
