Ronnie James Dio’s Posthumous Autobiography To Land In July

Prior to his passing in 2010, Ronnie James Dio was working on an autobiography. Titled Rainbow In The Dark, the text has posthumously been taken up by music writer Mick Wall, and it has today been announced that the bio will be released on July 27.

The pair, who were longtime friends, had been working on the autobiography prior to the singer’s passing due to stomach cancer back in May, 2010.

The book is set to be published by Permuted Press, and it will be a humorous and honest telling of the legendary life Dio led. It will be filled with anecdotes in Dio’s own words about his time with bands such as Elf, Rainbow and Black Sabbath, among others, as well as word on his fallout with Deep Purple and Rainbow guitarist, Ritchie Blackmore and his challenges with drugs throughout his Black Sabbath years.

Speaking with Heavy Consequence last year, his widow Wendy Dio offered some insight into the process of picking the autobiography back up after Dio’s death.

“Ronnie had been writing his memoirs and he wrote up to about the end of Rainbow, and we found some other scribblings on his computer after he passed away – so there is a bit more”, she said.

“We’ve been finding interviews that Ronnie did along the way, so it will continue in Ronnie’s own words.”
