Sam Smith In Talks To Perform The Next James Bond Theme

Sam Smith could be next in line to follow in the footsteps of other popular singers like Adele, Madonna, and Tom Jones by lending his voice to the theme of the next James Bond film. The London singer is reportedly in negotiations to take over Oscar-winner Adele’s spot for Bond 24.

According to a report in The Sun (via The Independent), executives from MGM, the studio that produces the Bond films, have been eyeing Smith up as the successor to Adele in providing the vocals for the latest instalment in the famous spy series, which is set to begin shooting in October.

“Sam is our top choice. He has the profile, cool image and astonishing voice to record a Bond theme,” an unnamed MGM source told The Sun. According to the source, the producers turned to Smith after unsuccessfully attempting to get Adele to repeat the success of her Skyfall theme.

“There is only so long we can hold out for Adele. Daniel Craig was pushing for her because she did such a great job last time around,” the source said. “But from her perspective, how can she better what she did with Skyfall? She won an Oscar, Bafta, Golden Globe and had a global number one.”

Appearing on the theme for Bond 24 would be the culmination of an incredible 12 months for Smith, who was recently in the country for Splendour In The Grass. Music Feeds reviewer Sam Murphy praised the high energy and communal spirit of the set, writing, “There was no better spectacle on Day Three than watching thousands of people singing at the top of their lungs to Stay With Me.”
