She Can DJ 2012 Winner Announced

The winner of this year’s She Can DJ competition has been announced, after the final DJ event put all 10 finalists up against eachother at Sydney’s Ivy Bar last night. This year’s winner was Adelaide’s Leah Mencel, who managed to wow the audience with her mashup/party/hiphop style.

Speaking about her win last night, she said: “I’m ecstatic!. This is the second year that I’ve taken part in She Can DJ, and I worked extremely hard to get here and wanted to win this amazing prize. It just goes to show, hard work really does pay off. I can’t wait to see what the next twelve months will bring!”

You may have seen Leah Mencel around town playing her own style of dubstep mix, with the likes of Skrillex, Flux Pavillion, Nero and Bassnectar. She’s had the privilege of playing the recent festival circuit as well, with DJ sets at Big Day Out, Future Music Festival, Stereosonic, Parklife and Creamfields.

Mencel has won an EMI recording agreement, along with her weekly mix featuring on 2DayFM’s Party People (which has over 600,000 listeners weekly) for the next year.

Of the other finalists (which included Alley Oop, Cassette, Dusk, Fingertips, Girl Audio, Hannah Parker, Juliet Fox, and NatNoiz) we recently spoke to Elly K about her experience at the event. You can see the full interview here.
