Shots Fired On Final Day Of SXSW, Shooter Arrested

Gunfire, screams and a mass panic have marred the end of South By Southwest 2016, after a shooter allegedly fired multiple rounds into the air in downtown Austin and scared the shit out of everyone.

Luckily nobody was injured, with police reporting that the alleged shooter has now been arrested and his firearm has been recovered.

Footage of the incident – which happened near the intersection of Sixth Avenue and Trinity Street at around 1.30am – has also emerged online, and it’s pretty intense.

There seems to be a heavy police presence and a general vibe of tension and unrest in the lead-up to the gunfire (which happens at around the 1.38 mark, triggering screams and causing the crowd to scatter).

It comes after the Austin Music Hall venue was evacuated on Friday night, after what police said was due to someone trying to bring a gun inside.

No shots were fired at the time, and the person who allegedly tried to bring in the firearm was never found.

Two years ago at South by Southwest, a drunk driver killed four people and injured dozens more.

Watch the footage of this year’s incident below, and we’ll keep you up to date with any more information as it develops.

On a happier note, a number of Aussie artists have been in action at the marathon international music showcase, including DZ Deathrays, Harts, Methyl Ethel, Stonefield and Melbourne rockers EMPRA.
