Following their high energy performance at this year’s Splendour & Falls Festival Showcase at SXSW, it didnt come as much of a surprise that New York City band Skaters would feature as one of the many hyped-about acts on the Splendour In The Grass 2014 lineup. Now, Australian audiences will get another couple of chances to catch the quartet as they announce just two extra sideshows.
Both the New York band’s music and attitude are entrenched in the punk roots of their hometown, adopting it as their muse and infusing their sound with the grit and energy of the kind of post-punk and new wave scenes that thrived in the city decades earlier. Currently touring the USA, Skaters will play Splendour sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne this July.
Their first EP, Schemers, arrived in 2012, and the band followed it up by heading to the famed Electric Lady Studios to begin work on their first full-length, Manhattan, which appeared earlier in 2014 and has already been featured as a triple j album of the week.
UPDATE 5:55pm 07/07/14: Skaters have confirmed they will be joined by Darlia during their Splendour In The Grass Sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne this July. These UK rockers play distortion-fuelled alt-rock that harkens back to the heyday of grunge and the lo-fi movement.
The three-piece have long been attracting fans and industry personnel alike, nabbing Zane Lowe’s Next Hype Record on BBC Radio 1 as well as full rotation on Triple J. The band’s upcoming Australian appearances will be their very first time in front of Australian crowds. Don’t miss it!
