Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor says the band are “definitely” planning to tour Australia next year. Taylor said the metal giants are currently looking at an October release for their as-yet-untitled new album, of which fans recently got a taste in the form of new “gift” track The Negative One.

“Starting in October, there’ll be a couple of months of touring, mainly in the US and shooting over to do those two Knotfests in Japan,” Taylor told BBC Radio 1. “And then break, obviously, for the holidays. And then next year, we’re gonna start slowly moving out to the rest of the world.”

“I know we’re eyeing Europe and the UK, we’re definitely looking at Australia, we’re looking at South America, Canada…” the frontman continued. “It’s basically just the blueprint for the world, basically… There’s Southeast Asia… I mean, there’s so much that we wanna do. Once we get that hammered out, we’ll immediately get it up and we’ll make sure that everybody knows about it.”

Taylor said he’s unsure of a definite release date for the band’s highly anticipated new album, but that they are “shooting for October,” in time for their Knotfest performances. “We’ve got pretty much all the artwork done, which Shawn [Crahan, percussionist] did a hell of a job on,” said Taylor.

When asked if Slipknot will appear at Soundwave 2015, promoter AJ Maddah said the nu-metal veterans would not play until they release their new album. A possible October release and Taylor’s recent comments could now reasonably see Slipknot as one of 2015’s four headliners.

“We’re getting ready… probably in the next couple of weeks, we’re gonna shoot a video for the first official single, which is called The Devil In I,” the frontman added. “So we’re gonna shoot a video for that. [And] that’s about all I know right now. [Laughs] ‘Cause we’re still finishing mixes.”

Taylor explained to Radio 1 that the recently unveiled The Negative One is not the album’s first single. “That was just a gift for the fans,” said Taylor. “We wanted them to hear a piece of the album. The single comes out in a few weeks, and it’s completely different. It’s more melodic, but it’s dark, it’s powerful, man. It’s something different. People are gonna lose their minds when they hear that.”

The band’s long-awaited fifth album will be their first full-length effort since 2008’s All Hope Is Gone and their first since the death of bassist Paul Gray and the departure of drummer Joey Jordison.
