Someone Has Replaced The Snare In Metallica’s ‘Master Of Puppets’ With The Shittier One From ‘St. Anger’

Lars Ulrich’s snare sound on Metallica’s divisive St. Anger album has become a music industry punchline, mocked and memed en masse by even the most devout of Metallica fans, since the offensive album was first released in 2003. Observe:

Now that’s been established, it appears as if one passionate YouTube user has gone to new heights in an ongoing campaign to demonstrate the full extent of Ulrich’s tin can snare’s sonic ineptitude: by inserting it in to Master Of Puppets – a song which is actually good.

Let us be clear: nobody wins in this scenario. Hearing Metallica’s triumphant metal magnum opus besmirched by the grating, hollow ting of the St. Anger snare is not anyone’s idea of a good time, but it does help shed some more light on why Ulrich himself would later go on to call the St. Anger snare tone an “abortion”, one year on from its initial release.

That’ll do, internet. That’ll do.
