Soundwave fans are on the home stretch, with one of the most epic festival lineups in recent memory just a few sleeps away and maps and timetables have now been unveiled for SW Perth, with new revisions spurred by complaints of band clashes on the Sydney and Brisbane rosters.
Ever since Big Day Out Perth changed venues from the Claremont Showgrounds to Arena Joondalup, promoter AJ Maddah had made it clear that he wished the same fate for his flagship event, having long experienced trouble and verbal skirmishes with the local Claremont council.
Maddah’s wish was finally granted last week, with the mogul tweeting, “We’re going to Joondalup! So happy. Finally will be able to hear the band and not have thugs shut down stages.” Both Maddah and fans were welcomed to Joondalup by VenuesWest chairman Graham Partridge.
The big news didn’t stop there, with the addition of five new bands to the lineup courtesy of Triple J Unearthed, the aforementioned announcement of last-minute timetable revisions, and the recent cancellation of Tennessee metal outfit Whitechapel, which was announced earlier today.
Readers can now see the whole shebang for themselves, including the extended set times for bands including Down, DevilDriver, and Trivium, a result of the dispute between Soundwave and thrash metal legends Megadeth, whose last minute cancellation eliminated the chance for a replacement.
Among the changes are GWAR‘s movement to much earlier in the day, Crosses shift forward, swapping places with Pulled Apart By Horses, Newsted and Amon Amarth trading places, with the latter opening Stage 4 and an extra 15 minutes added to headliner Avenged Sevenfold‘s set.
