Soundwave Scraps Plans For “Killer 4 Band Metal Sidewave” In Perth Next Year

UPDATE 17/12/15 5.50pm: Soundwave 2016 has been officially cancelled.

Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah has revealed the festival has scrapped its proposed plans to bring a “killer 4 band metal sidewave” to Perth in 2016.

Posting to Twitter, Maddah says the Perth sidewave “won’t happen”, and cites the fact that the “numbers don’t add up”, suggesting that the proposed WA sidewave will be financially unviable.

Maddah announced Soundwave’s Perth sidewave plans in October, telling punters he was a little “#Nervous” about the plan. “Dear Perth Metal Heads: I am working on a killer 4 band metal Sidewave for you,” he tweeted. “Are you going to show up?”

Maddah also told one Twitter user that American metalcore band and Soundwave 2016 act Hatebreed were planned to be part of the four-band Perth sidewave, which was said to have been in the works for the Thursday or Friday after Soundwave 2016’s final stop in Melbourne on Australia Day.

Soundwave Festival hasn’t stopped in Perth since 2014. In August this year, a die-hard fan launched a petition to bring the event back to Perth in 2016, but Maddah says that still isn’t currently possible.

On the Soundwave 2016 lineup front, Maddah says the festival is “waiting on one band” before making its next major lineup announcement. “Deadline for them is the weekend after many months of neg[otiations],” Maddah says. “Hopefully they confirm and make this a very big SW.”

Asked if he would give the mystery band in question until some time next week to decide, Maddah says, “Yeah. We have already given them ’til next week’ about 18 times!”
