Soundwave 2015 Lineup

It’s that time again. The time that Aussie music fans have been waiting for. The Soundwave 2015 lineup has finally arrived to usher in the festival’s awesome new two-day format with an awesome two-day bill, topped by Faith No More, Soundgarden, Slipknot, Slash, and Marilyn Manson.

It seems Soundwave goes from strength to strength each year, with the 2015 lineup stacked with quality, from Incubus, Lamb of God, Ministry, Antemasque, Gerard Way, Fall Out Boy, Judas Priest, and Godsmack, to All Time Low, Papa Roach, Tonight Alive, Crossfaith, Atreyu, and Fear Factory.

One man who definitely needs no introduction is Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil, who recently spoke to Music Feeds about the group’s plans for Soundwave. Kim says fans can expect a good airing of tunes from across their discography, including plenty from their most recent album, King Animal.

“I think Australian audiences are very similar to American audiences when it comes to rock,” explained Kim. “There’s something very similar in the cultures. The similarities are greater than that of what America shares with European countries or with Japan or perhaps even New Zealand. Australia and the US, they’re very similar and they both certainly embrace their rock and roll.”

We’d already had several names on the lineup confirmed before the big announcement. Earlier in the year, promoter AJ Maddah confirmed via Twitter that two of Melbourne’s most beloved heavy bands, Confession and Ne Obliviscaris, had already been booked for Soundwave 2015.

Then came the Soundwave 2015/Music Feeds First Wave, during which Music Feeds was lucky enough to officially add talented international up-and-comers Coldrain, Butcher Babies, Patent Pending, Monuments, and The Interrupters to the lineup, and introduce them to Australian fans.

It seemed the band everyone wanted to see in 2015 was Slipknot, who are currently putting the finishing touches on their long-awaited fifth album — Maddah said he wouldn’t book the band until a new record was out — and previously indicated that they would “definitely” tour Australia in 2015.

Incubus, meanwhile, were something of a sleeper hit. Maddah had told fans that frontman Brandon Boyd had “very different” plans preventing the band from making it. However, buzz was reignited after their 2015 tour announcement was revealed to be coinciding with the SW15 lineup reveal.

Maddah and co have made embracing our rock and roll very easy this time around, despite his previous prediction that, “If [Soundwave] 2013 was a 10 and 2014 was a five, this would be a seven or eight.”

Soundwave’s new two-day format will mean twice as much Soundwave goodness for fans, with the tour kicking off in Adelaide and Melbourne, who’ll be sharing the launch weekend, before the next weekend brings Soundwave to Brisbane and Sydney, with bands switching on each second day.

However, despite there being double the entertainment in 2015, fans won’t have to fork out double the dough to see it all. The limited two-day tickets are priced $185 + booking fees and expected to run out fast, while a pass to one day of Soundwave in your city will run you $120 + booking fees.

WHO’S ON THE SECOND SOUNDWAVE 2015 LINEUP ANNOUNCEMENT?

And there’s still more to come. Maddah has revealed today’s massive announcement is “most” of the 2015 roster and that there will be “around 14 bands” on a forthcoming second announcement. However, no additional two-day passes will be made available after the second lineup reveal.

UPDATE 25/08/14: The Soundwave 2015 lineup is already growing, with AJ Maddah confirming that The Wonder Years have been added to the bill. The pop-punk group was originally slated to perform a series of headline dates, but came over to Soundwave after the tour was cancelled.
