Southbound To Return In 2016 With Brand New Dates Announced

After devastating bushfires forced the cancellation of Western Australia’s Southbound Festival earlier this year, organisers now have some good news for punters. Southbound will return before the year is out.

Following extensive discussions with local council, organisers have decided to move the Busselton festival to the new dates of 27th – 29th December (smack-bang between Chrissy and New Years) for 2016, and for the years to come.

“The inspiration to change the dates came from the fire,” Sunset Events Managing Director and Promoter Dave Chitty said in a statement. “We were determined to deliver the 2016 event if we could and the City of Busselton supporting that means we can deliver that.”

“The change in dates and the impact on how we look at the event as a result of the fire has made us even more determined to deliver an even better Southbound for 2016 and beyond,” he continued. “Our resolve to strengthen the event and look at things differently will result in many changes which we look forward to sharing with Southbound fans as the announcements unfold in the coming months.”

Planning for Southbound 2016 is already “well underway”, with the first lineup announcement expected to drop some time in winter.

And the festival team will continue to fundraise in the lead up to this year’s December event to help remedy the devastation caused by the fires, including providing an opt-in function for punters to donate to the appeal when purchasing their tickets.

It comes after they raised over $150,000 towards the appeal with the Southbound Benefit Concert held just days after the festival’s cancelled January dates.

Southbound will also be offering an exclusive pre-sale to those who purchased tickets to the January event, only to have their money refunded.

The Southbound team are calling out to fans to help to rebuild and continue the festival’s legacy and its future with these new dates.

So pencil them into your daybooks, people!
