Stone Sour Drop Cover Of The Rolling Stones’ ‘Gimme Shelter’ With Halestorm’s Lzzy Hale

Corey Taylor and his Stone Sour mates have teamed up with Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale for a cover of The Rolling Stones classic Gimme Shelter, and the rockin’ new take on the track has surfaced online.

Stone Sour’s Gimme Shelter cover (below) stays true to the original, with some bluesy harmonica, a kick of dryness from Taylor’s vocals and some wide open space from Hale’s impressive pipes.

The cover is set to feature on Stone Sour’s upcoming vinyl-only EP Straight Outta Burbank, which is being released on 27th November. The EP is the follow-up to April’s Meanwhile In Burbank… and will also feature covers of tracks by Bad Brains, Iron Maiden, Mötley Crüe and Slayer.

“I love Straight Outta Burbank, because it’s a little bit further out there than Meanwhile in Burbank…,'” Taylor says in a statement (via Rolling Stone).

“This one hits a few different corners: [it’s] got Bad Brains on one end and the Stones on the other… and the crazy thing is it all works. I think that’s a reflection of us as a band. We do what we want, style-wise and it works. I hope people enjoy the spirit, music and fun that went into this.”

Speaking about how Stone Sour approached their new set of covers, guitarist Josh Rand says, “To stay true to the original recordings of these songs, we tried to recreate the sounds and tones that the original artist used.

“This was both fun and challenging, but the end result was worth all the hard work everyone put into achieving it.”
