Triple J have just unveiled the lucky winners of their big Unearthed competition to support the mighty ARCHITECTS when they return to our shores for a headlining tour alongside their regional trot for Groovin The Moo.
Seven local acts have been called upon for the daunting task of lubing up the crowd for the UK metalcore heavyweights — and their tour pals Ocean Grove — when they embark on a fistful of (largely sold out) dates across the nation this May.
The bands hand-picked by ARCHITECTS to support them at one date apiece on the tour (and possibly also give them cricketing tips ahead of their hotly anticipated GTM Ashes Test with countrymen The Darkness against Aussies Violent Soho and The Smith Street Band) include: Daybreakers (Brisbane), Gravemind (Melbourne), Thornhill (Melbourne), The Beautiful Monument (Melbourne), JunkHead (Sydney), Arteries (Sydney) and Iconoclast (Fremantle).
“Congrats to all the bands that made the cut for these shows,” Dan Searle from ARCHITECTS tells triple J. “There were plenty of great bands that didn’t quite make it and we were amazed by the quality of bands that Australia has to offer in the heavy music scene. New music is alive and well. See you guys in May.”
Naturally, it’s been a cause for ample celebrations among the winning acts. But Sydney band Arteries have taken their festivities to the next level, toasting the occasion by ripping a bloody champagne bong.
That’s right, a weed wand fuelled by the sparkling waters of far France. What’s, more, not content to merely toke on the bubbly fumes, a clip of the stunt posted to YouTube shows guitarist Braithe Selby — undoubtedly spurred on to new heights of bravado by the powers of Unearthed victory — necking the sparkling bong juice straight from its cylindrical vessel.
Speaking with Music Feeds, the axeman reveals how it all *went down*: “The fruit notes were HIGH. Sweetness level was like bathing in clouds, The body was sexy and the finish was dank, green and smokey! How else do you drink Champagne tho?”
What a loose c*nt.
