Gun-toting conservative old man rocker Ted Nugent has slagged Barack Obama as “a Chicago scam artist in chief” and “a psychopathic, America-hating liar” following the US President’s impassioned speech on gun violence.
Earlier today, the POTUS held a press conference, unveiling a suite of new measures designed to tighten gun controls in the US. Among other things, the reforms will strengthen requirements for US vendors to sell firearms, as well as make America’s background checking process more robust.
Here’s a bit of context: after being consistently stonewalled by congress on even the most modest gun reform measures throughout his presidency (while at the same time seeing mass shootings across the nation occur with ever-more alarming frequency), Obama decided to take matters into his own hands by introducing a package of executive actions, which can now go into effect without congressional approval.
“The gun lobby might be holding Congress hostage. But they cannot hold America hostage,” Obama proclaimed at the press conference, surrounded by victims of gun violence.
“The United States of America is not the only country on Earth with violent or dangerous people. We are not inherently more prone to violence — but we are the only advanced country on Earth that sees this kind of mass violence erupt with this kind of frequency,” he said, tearing up as he shared stories about survivors and the loved one’s they’ve lost at the hands of gun violence.
He then went on to warn the American people against the dangers of acclimating to such abnormal levels of tragedy.
“We become numb to it, and start thinking this is normal,” Obama said. “And instead of thinking about how to solve the problem, this has become one of our polarized, partisan debates.”
The Prez’s executive actions also call for a $500 million investment to improve access to US mental health services, additional funding for enforcing gun laws via the country’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and an FBI-led overhaul of the background checking system to make it more efficient, with additional funding for the Bureau to hire more than 200 new staff to manage the process.
To most Australians, these measures probably sound like a long-overdue dose of common sense to America’s gun violence epidemic.
Ted Nugent, however, would not agree.
The Cat Scratch Fever singer took to Facebook shortly after Obama’s speech to offer the following pearl:
“I will write a comprehensive piece on the Chicago scam artist in chief on his latest lies about tyranical trampling of the 2nd Amendment but know it ye all goodmen everywhere that his ongoing criminal oath violating INFRINGEMENTS would NOT have stopped nor will ever stop ANY mass shootings or crime that anyone is aware of. He is a psychopathic America hating liar. Period. Even his freedom hating AG made it perfectly clear she is ‘…. keeping a close eye on gun owners….’ instead of repeat criminal thugs. Dear God in heaven America is going down fast! Give NRA mbrshps to everyone you know TODAY!!”
Nugent was previously investigated by the Secret Service in 2012 after saying that he’d either be “dead or in jail by this time next year” if Obama was re-elected.
Unsurprisingly, he’s also a big supporter of Donald Trump’s presidential bid. Nuff said really.
As Blabbermouth reports, there are approximately 32,000 gun-related deaths in the United States every year.
