Aussie plunderphonics legends The Avalanches are no strangers to collaborating with different artists, but it turns out they were once in talks to recuit Adelaide rapper Tkay Maidza as their live frontwoman.
The Avalanches’ Tony Di Blasi tells The Music that the band once discussed having Tkay join them on tour.
“We actually were in talks with Tkay to be our live frontwoman/MC/singer, I think at the start of this year — we just couldn’t, I mean, I guess she’s got her own career,” Di Blasi says. “But she was definitely someone we looked at.”
Tkay tells Music Feeds, “It just didn’t work out because I had a lot to do with my own project,” but she also says she would still consider collaborating with the group live or in the studio “if the opportunity arises”.
Baltimore rapper Spank Rock has been The Avalanches’ main live vocalist of late, so when asked if there was the chance for other homegrown artists to step in, Di Blasi told The Music, “Yeah, we’d love to do more of that.”
The Avalanches will perform at Falls Festival over new year’s, and have some headline shows lined up in January.
