The Avalanches Will Look Back On ‘Since I Left You’ With Virtual Listening Party

The Chalartans frontman Tim Burgess has been doing a series of Twitter listening parties while stuck in self-isolation, where music fans around the globe listen to the same album, while the musicians involved share memories about making and performing it, using the hashtag #timstwitterlisteningparty.

It’s a very wholesome idea, and a bunch of artists have already joined Burgess to look back on one of their classic records, such as members of Oasis, Blur, The Libertines and more.

Next week, Aussie sample wizards The Avalanches will be taking part, reflecting on their seminal debut album Since I Left You, which turns 20 this year. They’ll be chatting on Twitter from 7am on Saturday, 26th April,

Chatting to Channel 4‘s Krishnan Guru-Murthy earlier this week, Burgess spoke about the virtual listening parties.

“The beauty of it is is that the artist tells you how they made it, shares memories with people who are eager for information,” Burgess said.

“I think you can feel it, because obviously we can’t be in the same room as many other people, but you know that thousands of other people around the world are actually listening at the same time, and you can almost feel the power of it.”

The Avalanches returned in 2016 after a lengthy hiatus with second album Wallflower. The band have been teasing their third since February, having already released two singles –the Blood Orange-featuring ‘We Will Always Love You’, and ‘Running Red Lights’, a tribute to the late David Berman which features Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo along with Pink Siifu.
