The Beths Share ‘Knees Deep’ From Upcoming Album ‘Expert in a Dying Field’

Aotearoa outfit The Beths have given fans another taste of their new album, sharing its latest single, ‘Knees Deep’. The new track follows previous singles ‘Silence Is Golden’ and ‘Expert In A Dying Field’, with the latter serving as the title track for the record, which is due to arrive on Friday, 16th September.

Maintaining the same pop-influenced indie-rock sound the group have all but perfected over their eight-year career, ‘Knees Deep’ is a boisterous cut that sees lead songwriter and vocalist Elizabeth Stokes exploring the metaphor of getting cold feet. “I’m the kind of person who wants to go swimming, but takes like ten minutes to get all the way into the cold water, slowly and painfully,” Stokes explained.

“I hate this about myself, and am kind of envious of people who can just jump straight in the deep end,” she added. “In a shocking twist, this is also a metaphor?! For how I wish I was the kind of person who was brave and decisive instead of cautious and scared.”

‘Knees Deep’ comes with a music video directed by Callum Devlin and Annabel Kean. The clip mixes performance footage with clips of the group bungee jumping, extrapolating the metaphor of jumping “straight in the deep end”.

With Expert In A Dying Field set for release on Friday, 16th September, The Beths will begin an Australian tour the day prior in Melbourne.
