The Black Keys‘ frontman Dan Auerbach is set to release a new solo album in 2017, as the follow-up to 2009’s Keep It Hid, and he’s just revealed a bunch of juicy info about the release in a new in-studio interview.
Speaking with Rolling Stone, Auerbach calls the new album a “history of everything I love about music”, and it looks like the record will be heavily inspired by Nashville, where he currently lives.
Auerbach reveals that he has about 60 songs to chose from for the record, including one which is a tribute to legendary music producer Rick Rubin, and another which features some guitar work from Dire Straits’ Mark Knopfler.
Auerbach has also worked with rock legend Duane Eddy, Memphis musicians Gene Christman and Bobby Wood, and Nashville’s Dave Roe on the album at his own East Eye Studio, and the tunes he’s been pumping out are the result of some co-writing sessions with country music veteran John Prine and Johnny Cash associate David “Fergie” Ferguson.
“These guys tell me they’re genuinely thrilled to be here because we’re making records like they used to,” Auerbach says of the creative process. “I learned so much from these guys.”
What’s more, despite The Black Keys still being on hiatus, Auerbach says he’s prepared to tour behind his new solo album.
