The Kid LAROI, Genesis Owusu, Tones And I Among APRA Award Winners

The Kid LAROI reigned supreme at the 40th APRA Music Awards, announced at a ceremony last night (3rd May) in Melbourne.

The now Los Angeles based artist took out the hat trick of Peer-Voted APRA Song Of The Year (‘STAY’), Songwriter Of The Year and Most Performed Hip Hop / Rap Work (‘WITHOUT YOU’).

On winning the APRA Music Award for Songwriter Of The Year, The Kid LAROI said in his acceptance speech, “I really appreciate the support and I want to give a quick shout out to fans back home. I’m stoked to be on my way back and I can’t wait to perform the END OF THE WORLD Tour with you guys. I miss you all and I’ll see you soon.”

The APRA Music Awards also celebrated songwriters and artists including Genesis Owusu, who took out the Breakthrough Songwriter Of The Year award; Tones And I, who won two gongs for Most Performed Pop Work (‘Fly Away’) and Most Performed Australian Work Overseas (‘Dance Monkey’).

The ceremony also ushered in first-time APRA winners like Budjerah and Matt Corby, who won the Most Performed R&B / Soul Work for Budjerah’s single ‘Higher’. Ziggy Alberts also won his first APRA Award for Most Performed Blues & Roots Work (‘Letting Go’).

Performances on the night made sure interesting collabs were on show, with artists including KYE, Chris Cheney, Dallas Woods, Tasman Keith, Jack Ladder & The Dreamlanders and more all taking to the stage.
