The Pop Music World Is Losing It Over Normani & Her New Song ‘Motivation’

Written by Jackson Langford on August 18, 2019

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen artists upon artists come out and support a newcomer in such a huge way that it is almost inescapable. But, that’s exactly the uproar Normani has caused with her debut solo single ‘Motivation’, and the corresponding nostalgia-filled music video.

In case you don’t know, Normani started out as a member of the highly successful girl group Fifth Harmony. Then, when the group announced their indefinite hiatus, Normani had a string of hugely popular collabs, like Khalid’s ‘Love Lies’, Calvin Harris’ ‘Checklist’ and Sam Smith’s ‘Dancing With A Stranger’.

Now, she’s stepping out on her own and her pop music peers are publicly fawning over her in ways we haven’t seen before. Might seem crazy, but when you watch the music video for ‘Motivation’ – an homage to the early 00’s music video days of TRL – you might understand why.

The singer/songwriter/dancer extraordinaire received praise from stars like Cardi B, Ryan Tedder, Kelly Rowland, Ciara, Kehlani, Nicki Minaj, Brandy and Ariana Grande, the latter of which co-wrote the song with Normani as well as hitmakers Max Martin, Savan Kotecha and Ilya Salmanzadeh. On top of that, actresses like Brie Larson, models like Bella Hadid and athletes like Simone Biles also shouted out the up-and-comer.

Normani was also the most followed person on Instagram yesterday, earning over 120,000 followers according to Trackalytics.

If you’re keen to see what all the buzz is about, watch the music video for ‘Motivation’ below.
