Prepare your emotions: Travis Barker is opening up about the trauma, survivor’s guilt and the extraordinary road to recovery that followed the 2008 plane crash that nearly claimed his life in a powerful new documentary, Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear.
And fair warning if you’re already feeling a bit fragile today: the newly released trailer will probably wreck you.

“Why am I here when everyone else isn’t?” the Blink-182 drummer asks through tears in the first look at the decade-in-the-making film, which will chart his journey from global rock stardom through unimaginable tragedy and ultimately towards rebuilding his life.
Directed by Justin Krook and Michael Dwyer, Louder Than Fear delves deeply into the September 2008 plane crash that killed four people and left Barker with burns covering 65 per cent of his body.
Among those killed were Barker’s close friends and colleagues Charles “Che” Still and Chris Baker, while his friend and fellow crash survivor Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein died from an accidental drug overdose the following year.
Barker endured 27 surgeries in the aftermath of the crash and has spoken openly over the years about the immense physical and psychological toll of surviving it.
“I had to ask myself who I was going to be after this accident,” Barker says in the trailer while wiping away tears.
His answer, ultimately, was to throw himself into becoming the best version of himself for his family.
“I had the desire to become the greatest person and father I could be,” he says, as the trailer cuts to footage of Barker spending time with his children as Blink’s tear-jerking 2023 ballad ‘One More Time’ plays.
The documentary also explores Barker’s life before the accident, including Blink-182’s meteoric rise and his struggles with prescription drug abuse at the height of the band’s fame.
“It was all a blur,” Barker reflects, revealing that his substance use became so severe that he had a security guard tasked with watching him sleep to ensure he was still breathing.
Then came the crash.
Barker describes the horrifying scene simply as “fire and chaos everywhere”.
The trailer also revisits another enormous psychological hurdle in Barker’s recovery: flying.
For years after the accident, the drummer refused to set foot on a plane, describing the memories of the crash as triggering the “worst flashbacks”.
He ultimately returned to the skies in 2021, boarding a flight to Mexico with his now-wife Kourtney Kardashian for his first plane journey in 13 years.
Kardashian also appears in Louder Than Fear, acknowledging that she could “never truly understand” the trauma her husband endured.
Barker’s Blink-182 brothers Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge are among a stacked collection of musicians contributing to the documentary, alongside Questlove, Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee, Rancid’s Tim Armstrong and late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.
The film will also journey back through Barker’s arrival in Blink-182, with Hoppus and DeLonge recalling the now-legendary story of recruiting him to replace original drummer Scott Raynor – with Barker reportedly learning their set in around an hour before taking the stage.
But judging by its first trailer, the beating heart of Louder Than Fear lies beyond Barker’s accomplishments behind the kit.
It’s about what happened when his life almost ended – and what he decided to do with the life he still had.
“Knowing how close I got to not being here, my appreciation for life is something I can’t even explain,” Barker says in the trailer.
