The Weeknd Is Playing A Virtual Concert, On TikTok

TikTok is hosting a live The Weeknd show this weekend. Except it’s a virtual show where The Weeknd is performing as a digital avatar on the app.

He’ll be playing tunes from his latest release After Hours and viewers can apparently interact with him while he performs. TikTok has dubbed this its “first-ever in-app cross reality experience.” Fancy.

They’re calling the performance The Weeknd Experience, #TheWeekndEXP. It kicks off on Friday, 7th August at 8:30pm ET time, which is 10:30am AEST.

The performance will go down on the official TikTok page. Earlier this year, the single ‘Blinding Lights’ from his album After Hours saw the birth of the #BlindingLightsChallenge. While the song is catchy AF and a stellar single, it was definitely the challenge that saw it soar to #1 on the charts.

TikTok teamed up with Wave, who have put on virtual concerts for the likes of John Legend and Lindsey Stirling.

The virtual concert is raising money for Equal Justice Initiative. It’s a charity supporting racial equality and TikTok is urging users to donate to the charity via the app.
