There Are No Plans For A New Bon Iver Album Yet Says Justin Vernon

It’s been a long four years since Justin Vernon‘s Bon Iver released their self-titled sophomore record and it looks like fans have a lot longer to wait for another, maybe their whole life.

Earlier this year things were looking hopeful when Bon Iver were announced as the headliner for Vernon’s Eaux Claires Music Festival in Wisconsin but at the moment those are the only plans set in stone for the band.

“As far as putting a record together, I don’t really know what’s happening. We don’t have any plans. We’re not being secretive — we just don’t have any plans,” he told Grantland.

“It’s just about, ‘Play the show and put all of our energy into one show’ — for once in my life, let’s just play one fucking show and care just about this one show for a goddamn change.”

Since the release of album number two, Bon Iver’s future has been uncertain. Vernon has released a record with his other band Volcano Choirs, dropped an album with rapper Astronautalis and appeared on-stage with Kanye West during his headline Glastonbury set.

Things were looking positive when a new song from the band appeared on the soundtrack for Zach Braff’s Wish I Was Here, but this latest development seemingly puts us back at square one.

Let’s not lose all hope just yet. He also said that during their Eaux Claires set they “might play some new stuff,” so we’ll at least have some YouTube bootlegs to cling onto.

The long time out of the limelight may have something to do with Vernon’s awkwardness in regard to his celebrity status. He admitted during the band’s rise to fame he did a few things he’s not so proud of like appearing in a photoshoot for Irish whiskey brand Bushmills.

“I think we made a few mistakes as far as letting it, they, them, the world, the pressures, the pattern, the subscribed thing kind of spoil certain aspects of it — i.e., enjoying playing music,” he said.
