Tom DeLonge Discusses Blink-182’s New Album Plans

Tom DeLonge is spending most of his time on Angels And Airwaves right now, but that hasn’t stopped him talking up the next Blink-182 record. He’s revealed further plans for the long-awaited new album in a recent interview, saying Blink plan on recording outside of the traditional studio environment in a manner similar to their untitled 2003 release.

“I’m not totally sure how it’s going to work but the goal is to find an area or an environment that’s different and not just a normal studio to be together as [we] architect the songs and inspire each other in ways that we did back in that timeframe,” he told Gigwise. “I think if we can pull off those few things we’ll be in really really good shape.”

To record their 2003 album, Blink rented a home in San Diego and abandoned their previous separate writing and recording process in favour of tackling each song together, resulting in a new and divisive musical direction for the band.

“We’ve always done what we liked, and on the Untitled record there was a lot of debate where we thought our fans wouldn’t even like it, but I think we succeeded by sticking to what we wanted to do, and it turned out to be the one that the fans like the most,” added DeLonge.

In an interview in October, DeLonge said he was hoping Blink 182 will “get this thing out” by the summer of 2015 and more recently, according to Alt Press, he stated that the band have found a “partner” for the record’s release.

“We’ve been searching vigorously for a partner of how we’re going to put that out. I literally think I got the last email last night, as far as signing this paperwork to say, ‘Okay, this is our partner’,” he said.

“So, I can’t announce anything yet, but next is all the scheduling of when and how, where and with whom we do it. So I think the goal is right after the holidays, we’re going to be going pretty hardcore.”

The next album will be Blink’s seventh, and their first full-length release since 2011’s Neighborhoods. DeLonge recently released his new album with Angels & Airwaves, The Dream Walker, which also includes an award-winning film and a graphic novel.
