Tones And I’s ‘Dance Monkey’ Hits 1 Billion Streams

Tones And I‘s reign is simply unstoppable, as ‘Dance Monkey’ has now joined an elite club of Australian songs to surpass one billion streams on Spotify globally.

Now a member of the APRA AMCOS 1,000,000,000 list, Tones said the song was actually written in just 30 minutes.

“It was only when I wasn’t trying at all that it happened, and I wrote this song in about a half an hour,” she told APRA AMCOS staff, her co-managers Lemon Tree Music and Artists Only and her publisher Kobalt Music Group.

“The reason for this award is to signal the importance of the songwriter, who is sometimes behind-the-scenes,” said Dean Ormston, APRA AMCOS Chief Executive.

“Tones’ talent is incredible: she’s the artist and the person behind-the-scenes with a song she wrote one hundred percent herself. Her career is just beginning.”

This news comes off the back of Tones And I’s huge impact on Triple J’s Hottest 100, having three tracks chart including ‘Dance Monkey’ at #4.

Tones is currently performing with Laneway Festival, which is hitting Melbourne, Adelaide and Fremantle this weekend.
