Triple J Has A New Music Director, As Richard Kingsmill Takes A New Role

Triple j has a new Music Director, but it doesn’t mean that Richard Kingsmill is out of a job.

Triple j‘s former Assistant Music Director, Nick Findlay, has now been appointed the station’s Music Director, taking over the role from Kingsmill, who is now the overarching Music Director of four ABC radio networks: triple j, Double J, triple j Unearthed and ABC Local Radio.

Findlay, who has worked at triple j for over a decade, was once a Music Researcher & Producer at the station, and has also worked as a Presenter, Producer and Assistant Music Director at FBi Radio in Sydney.

Kingsmill, who has been at triple j for almost 30 years, now leads a team of Music Directors which also includes Double J Music Director Dorothy Markek, triple j Unearthed Music Director Dave Ruby Howe and ABC Local Radio Music Director Jacinta Parsons. Kingsmill will also continue to host triple j‘s ‘2017’ programme on Sunday evenings.

Presenter Gemma Pike, who has worked in the triple j music team since 2011, is now the station’s Assistant Music Director.

In a statement to The Industry Observer, the ABC‘s Head Of Music, Chris Scaddan, said, “This recent change in job titles is a recognition of the way the teams have been working for the past two-to-three years, since the introduction of Double J and the added responsibility of the team to program music for ABC Local Radio.

“Richard [Kingsmill]’s experience and expertise stretches across a broader remit, with Nick [Findlay] taking on more direct responsibility for triple j’s day to day programming.”
